What is Kinbasket Reservoir?

As a solution for flood-control, the Columbia River Treaty between Canada (British Columbia Hydro Power and Authority) and the United States (Army Corp of Engineers and Bonneville Power Corp) was ratified in 1964.  Three dams, including Mica Dam in 1973, were constructed, and Kinbasket Lake, the “workhorse” of the Columbia River, was created and became the largest treaty reservoir in the entire Basin.  BC Hydro may fluctuate their 430 square kilometre reservoir up to 47 vertical metres (28m in the vicinity of the Valemount Marina) every year using a combination of water use planning, power generation, downstream needs, hydrology, snowpack analysis and precipitation forecasts.

Yes, that’s a lot of water, approx. five million acre-feet of water.  So, where is the water?
